For those of you who haven’t been following this: The deadline has come and gone, and approximately 80% (estimated) of the remaining employees who were issued the Muskrat’s ultimatum have said “no” and are walking. In the wake of that, Twitter buildings have been locked down and all employee badge accesses withdrawn.

As if all this isn’t bad enough, the World Cup starts this weekend – an event typically so stressful on Twitter’s structure that the last time it happened it nearly crashed the platform even with all the former staff in place. What will happen in the very short term is hard to tell. But the platform may fail.

If you’re a Twitter user and have not requested a download of your data, this  could well be your last chance before the platform starts to show signs of failure. Better get moving.

Meanwhile, many of the rest of us are going through most of the stages of grieving at once for online communities which may vanish utterly, but even if they do manage to survive, will unlikely ever again be what they once were…

Thinking of all those about to be impacted… not least the thousands of Twitter employees who worked hard through the pandemic, only to have this utter crap descend on them.

(sigh) Meanwhile, as for the users: may we all find one another again on the (or some) other side…
